Indications of Menaril 8 Tablet
Menaril 8 prevents and treats Ménière's disease, an inner ear disorder. Symptoms include dizziness (vertigo), ringing in the ears (tinnitus), and hearing loss, which is most likely caused by fluid in the ear. This medication relieves symptoms by decreasing the amount of fluid in the body. To get the most benefit, Menaril 16 should be taken whole with water at the same time(s) every day. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose to relieve your symptoms and how frequently you should take it. You may need to take this medication for several months, and you should take it for as long as your doctor prescribes.
Pharmacology of Menaril 8 Tablet
Betahistine works in a variety of ways. Meniere's disease is thought to be caused by a breakdown in the endolymphatic fluid equilibrium of the ear. Betahistine is primarily a histamine H1 receptor agonist. The stimulation of H1-receptors in the inner ear causes a vasodilatory effect in the blood vessels, resulting in increased permeability and a decrease in endolymphatic pressure; this action prevents labyrinth rupture, which can contribute to Ménière's disease hearing loss. Betahistine is also thought to alleviate vertigo symptoms by reducing asymmetry in the functioning of sensory vestibular organs and increasing vestibulocochlear blood flow.
Betahistine also acts as a histamine H3-receptor antagonist, increasing histamine turnover from postsynaptic histaminergic nerve receptors and, as a result, increasing H1-agonist activity. H3-receptor antagonism increases brainstem neurotransmitter levels, particularly serotonin, which inhibits vestibular nuclei activity, restoring normal balance and reducing vertigo symptoms.
